Hot-water planning
Hot-water rebates and certificates: checking a replacement quote
For an ordinary homeowner, start by checking whether the exact heat-pump or solar hot-water model qualifies for federal Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs), and whether the installer’s price already includes that benefit. HotWaterWise does not automatically calculate or deduct incentives.

STCs can be reflected in the purchase price
The Clean Energy Regulator says only certain solar water heaters and air-source heat pumps qualify. Check its linked model register and installation requirements. Product type alone is not proof of eligibility.
An owner can create eligible certificates or assign the right to a registered agent, commonly in exchange for a purchase discount. The regulator does not set the certificate price used by agents. There is no universal dollar discount assumed here.
Ask the seller to identify the model, certificate arrangement and discount in writing, and confirm applicable installer licensing. A certificate discount is not automatically a separate cash rebate that can be claimed again. These scheme statements were checked on ; confirm current requirements before signing.
Check the final amount once, line by line
- Identify the complete installed price and any excluded work.
- Identify an STC discount already included in that price and the conditions attached to it.
- Check any other assistance directly with its official programme, including whether it can be combined with the quoted offer.
- Confirm the amount actually payable and whether any later payment is conditional.
- Enter a confirmed final installed amount in Payback once. Do not deduct a discount that is already included.
For example, an illustrative $5,000 complete quote less an already included $800 certificate discount leaves $4,200 payable. Entering $4,200 and then subtracting $800 again would incorrectly reduce the cost to $3,400. These amounts explain invoice arithmetic; they are not an available STC offer.
When assistance is uncertain, retain an undiscounted scenario and label any separate confirmed scenario. The calculator accepts the entered amount; it does not verify eligibility, forecast certificate prices or apply rebate rules.
Queensland homeowner programme status
No general homeowner heat-pump rebate was identified in the official Queensland assistance sources checked on 29 September 2026. This is a dated finding rather than a guarantee that no household could qualify for other assistance. Check the current directory for the household’s circumstances.
The former Climate Smart Energy Savers programme is closed, as confirmed by the Queensland Government closure statement, checked on 7 October 2026. Old articles and advertised former payment amounts should not be treated as current offers.
Electricity bill relief and other household assistance are different from a discount on a replacement water heater. Do not insert unrelated bill assistance into the installation price or annual hot-water saving.
Separate assistance for eligible community-housing providers
The provider-owned Community Housing Energy Upgrades programme is restricted to eligible registered providers and qualifying dwellings and upgrades. It is not an ordinary homeowner rebate.
On 7 October 2026, its official page lists applications as open until 30 October 2026, with up to $4,500 excluding GST per eligible dwelling across eligible upgrades. Heat-pump and solar hot-water upgrades are among the listed options. Formal conditional approval is required before works commence. Read the full rules rather than treating the maximum as a promised water-heater payment.
Take the confirmed quote into the comparison
Use Heat Pump Payback after checking the quote and household running-cost inputs. Its $4,475 benchmark is an internal planning assumption, not a rebate-adjusted market quote.
The heat-pump guide explains full installed-cost payback. Systems covers practical choices, and Methodology documents the arithmetic. Programme eligibility and amounts remain outside that arithmetic.
